About The Role

Assistant Headteacher for SEN (SENCo) and Disadvantaged students - to start September 2025

Salary: L10 – L14 (£71,614- £78,000pa)

Closing date: Midnight Sunday 11th May 2025

Interview date: W/c Monday 19th May 2025

We are looking to appoint an energetic and committed professional with successful middle leadership and some whole school experience, to the role of Assistant Headteacher for SEN (SENCo) and Disadvantaged students at William Perkin C of E High school.

William Perkin Church of England High School was opened in 2013 and is part of the Twyford Church of England Academies Trust. Its GCSE results in its first two years of exams placed it in the top 10 schools in the country in terms of progress and it has grown a large and flourishing sixth form. The school is founded on the successful systems and approaches of Twyford CE High School, with the principle difference that it is a distinctively Christian school with open admission criteria.  The school is rated ‘Outstanding’ in all areas by Ofsted (June 2015) and SIAMS (October 2016) and is oversubscribed on first choice applicants.

The main purpose of this role is to ensure that the needs of all SEN students are met – either within the mainstream curriculum or through additional provision. The SENCO will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the SEN department.  The post holder will be responsible for the students learning, and accountable for their academic progress.  They should be able to teach either literacy or numeracy to KS3 level and ensure the William Perkin core curriculum is delivered to each student, either within the centre or by inclusion in the mainstream school.

The SENCO will be responsible for ensuring that the specific requirements of each student’s statement of SEN or Education, Health & Care plan are met along with EHCP students who are outside the ARC.  This will include keeping a record of interventions and support provided; quarterly reviews of progress; termly meetings with parents, as well as keeping IEPs and holding Annual Review meetings.

The SENCO will create a balanced timetable for all EHCP students, probably individual to each child, and deploy the Teaching Assistants effectively, writing their timetables and ensuring their time is used effectively and efficiently.  The timetable will include teaching the core curriculum of English, Mathematics, Science, RE, a humanity and MFL.  All schemes of work and individual lesson plans are held on the school’s VLE (Copia).

The aim is to ensure that all students leave the ARC able to function as independent adults; be able to access the William Perkin 6th form; undertake further education or training.

The role also includes responsibility for ensuring Disadvantaged students (pupil premium) achieve outcomes for both academic progress and personal progression in line with their non-disadvantaged peers. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring staff are confident in ensuring all students, regardless of their background, have access to, and make the most of, the same opportunities for learning and enrichment.

This role presents a unique professional development opportunity for a candidate who already has significant expertise in leading a curriculum area or a pastoral team which has focussed on both attainment and wellbeing.  The role provides the opportunity to grow as a key member of the SLT and to develop towards Deputy Headship – S/he will develop as an Assistant Headteacher within a visionary and enterprising context, and with the support of an experienced SLT and Executive team.

We offer:

  • Exceptional professional development and career progression
  • Positive working relationships at all levels
  • A supportive Leadership Team and Trust support staff
  • A full-range of Trust services providing support and development

    The successful candidate will have:

  • A good degree; QTS and NASENCO qualification or in the second year of NPQSEN
  • Proven record of outstanding results and raising standards
  • Outstanding skills as a classroom teacher
  • At least 3 years’ experience in Middle Leadership
  • Ability to be reflective and driven towards self-improvement
  • A commitment to the ethos of the school and the Trust

The school reserves the right to research shortlisted candidates on social media platforms and the internet, and the recruitment panel may take this information into consideration during the recruitment process

The Twyford Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  The successful applicant will be required to undergo the child protection screening appropriate to the post, including an enhanced disclosure from the DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) and references from previous employers.  For more information about the DBS please see https://www.gov.uk/disclosure-barring-service-check.  The post-holder will also be expected to read and adhere to the Trust’s Child Protection Policy, and any other Safeguarding documents stated within this.

The Twyford Church of England Academy Trust is committed to creating and sustaining a diverse and inclusive workforce which represents our context and wider community. We are aware that those of Global Majority Heritage/United Kingdom Minority Ethnic (GMH/UKME) and disabled people are currently under-represented among our staff, and we particularly encourage applications from those with the relevant skills and experience that will increase this representation.

About the school

William Perkin CE High School is consulting on its Admissions policy for entry into Year 7 in September 2026 to include ‘Children of Staff’ places. If, as we expect, the proposal is approved, the admissions policy will include the following criterion: ‘Children of all staff’ where the member of staff has been employed at the school for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to the school is made or where the member of staff has been recruited to a post where there is a demonstrable skill shortage.

Twyford CE Academies Trust

The Twyford Church of England Academies Trust (TCEAT) is a Multi Academy Trust which comprises four secondary schools in the London Borough of Ealing. The Trust was established in October 2011 to enable our heavily oversubscribed existing school, Twyford CE High School, to build on its successes and look outward to the large number of parents who were eager to become part of its community. Over a 10-year period it launched three new schools Ealing Fields, William Perkin and Ada Lovelace all of which have achieved progress outcomes ranking them in the top 1% of schools nationally, making TCEAT the highest performing Trust in the UK including the progress made by disadvantaged students. TCEAT aims to deliver outstanding education in a comprehensive school setting and embraces the Trust motto ‘Life in all its fullness’, encouraging students to use their individual gifts wisely and well. Supported by the London Diocesan Board for Schools (LDBS), TCEAT operates on collaborative principles with some central services to achieve consistency of provision. The Trust has a highly evolved common curriculum running through years 7-13, which has been devised by staff within the four schools. It has thriving post-16 provision, including both A-Levels and T-Levels, and is heavily oversubscribed. Music plays a significant role in the spiritual life of the TCEAT schools and pastoral systems are strong. The Trust also runs Teach West London, a Teaching School Hub for teacher training and development with outreach to over 330 schools across Ealing, harrow Hillingdon and Hounslow. More recently, TCEAT partnered with Oak National Academy to develop their English Secondary curriculum and produce high-quality resources for pupils in years 7–11. Following this success, a further partnership has evolved with Cam Academy Trust to support them with developing the MFL Curriculum for Oak. This is in collaboration with the Thames West Language Hub, which is an NCLE Language Hub run by TCEAT which aims to support high quality language education and high uptake of language learning in the local community. More information can be found on the TCEAT website: https://twyfordacademies.org.uk/
